Roberto Gómez de la Iglesia

Roberto Gómez de la Iglesia is an economist, cultural mediator and expert in the creative economy. He is the director of Conexiones improbables, an organisation based in the Basque Country that promotes collaboration between artists, cultural agents, companies and social organisations through open and cross-sector innovation processes. His work focuses on building bridges between culture and other sectors, encouraging creative approaches to organisational and societal challenges.

He is also the co-author and creator of Kultursistema, a conceptual and methodological framework used to map and strengthen cultural and creative ecosystems across different territories. Widely implemented internationally, it serves as a strategic tool for cultural policy and sector development.

Roberto has a long trajectory in cultural management and entrepreneurship. He founded and led the Xabide Cooperative Group for 25 years, one of the pioneering cultural organisations in Spain. More recently, he launched Hibridalab, a centre for open innovation and creative transfer in Álava, bringing together institutions and industries in collaborative experimentation.

He has delivered lectures and developed training programmes in over 20 countries, particularly across Europe and Latin America.

Conexiones improbables has been recognised by the European Union as a partner of the New European Bauhaus and was awarded the N.I.C.E. Award for cultural innovation in 2014. The organisation has participated in numerous international projects, including Erasmus+, Horizon Europe and Creative Europe initiatives. It regularly collaborates with universities, public administrations and cultural organisations across Europe.
